This morning we’ve pulled together a series of 3d models showing different stages excavation in Structure Twelve’s eastern annexe.

This feature lies directly outside the Twelve’s eastern entrance and during excavation produced quantities of animal bone, pottery and decorated stone on a daily basis.

Initially we thought it might represent a walled passageway but as work progressed it seemed that we had an actual cell tacked on to the exterior of the building later in its life.

In 2023, the apparent lack of a rear wall to a section of this “cell” meant a swing back to the passageway idea – perhaps a feature that led from Twelve out towards Structure Thirty.

Further excavation, however, will be required to clarify this. In the meantime, what we do know about the eastern annexe can be found here.
