Another Neolithic fingerprint turns up during pottery triage operations

Our 2026 pottery triage project is now into its fourth week and this morning Heather hit the jackpot with another Neolithic fingerprint.
She was cleaning an unprepossessing piece of fired clay – not even a fragment of a pot – and there it was! A fingerprint impressed, clearly, on a piece of clay which then was fired and has survived millennia.
We’ll take RTI images of it, send them to Professor Kent Fowler and see what he can tell us about the person who left their mark millennia ago. Heather will smile to herself for the rest of the day, having had the thrill of finding that mark and making a connection with a person who also worked with pot at the Ness.
