‘Sherd Nerds’ back for a second season of pottery triage project

After the resounding success of the 2025 season, our nine-week pottery triage project got under way this week, with volunteers continuing to work through the Ness’ massive ceramics assemblage.

Working with our specialists, the triage volunteers are measuring, weighing, cleaning and recording every sherd one of the thousands of fragments of Ness pottery found over 20 years of excavation.

Originally planned to run for six-weeks, the 2025 project proved so popular that it was extended through to September.
