Your chance to rebuild the Ness structures . . . with Lego bricks!

Ness Lego Build

Lego fans young and old have a chance to put their skills to the test next month in a project to build the Ness of Brodgar structures entirely from Lego bricks!

The free workshops, suitable for ages 7+, will be running at the Kirkwall Library on July 9, 10 and 11 July, with builders – both adults and children – able to book one-hour sessions to help create models of the excavated Neolithic structures.

The Learning & Inclusion Team at Historic Environment Scotland (HES) have partnered up with Ness of Brodgar Trust and Orkney Library and Archive to deliver the event, where participants will learn about architecture, scale, construction and heritage in a fun and hands-on way, with lots of opportunity to learn new LEGOยฎ building skills and techniques.

Ness of Brodgar Trust education officer, Katy Firth, said: โ€œWe are so excited to get re-creating the Ness of Brodgar in Lego. We hope to get lots of folk along to help us build several of the siteโ€™s magnificent stone structures to scale.

“Our sessions are overlapping time-wise with Julyโ€™s Time Team excavation, so this will be another way that folk can get involved in the archaeology at the Ness, but through model making.โ€
