OAS talk on Ness art and architecture

The decorated stones from the Ness of Brodgar excavation are the subject of an Orkney Archaeology Society talk by Associate Professor Antonia Thomas on Thursday evening.
In Carved in Stone: Art and architecture at the Ness of Brodgar, Antonia will talk about her work at the Ness, both during the excavations and as post-excavation specialist. She will discuss the different types of decorated and dressed stone found on the site, from small fragments and hidden stones, to dramatic statement pieces, and from delicately incised slabs to chiselled and pick-dressed pillars, and the challenges and potential of recording this incredible and unique assemblage.
The talk on Thursday, June 18, in the St Magnus Centre, Kirkwall, begins at 7pm.
