In 2012, Jim Richardson visited the Ness to capture images for a National Geographic feature.

On Thursday, he posted a lovely article on the Ness excavation on his blog.

After reading Jim’s words, site director Nick Card commented: “Ever since welcoming Jim to the Ness to capture some of the most memorable and evocative images of the excavations for the cover article in National Geographic in 2014, Jim has been a great friend and supporter of the Ness of Brodgar, and a regular visitor whenever he is in Scotland.

“He has helped to spread the word about our work to a worldwide audience. Although it’s said that a picture paints a thousand words – which his photos always do! – his article manages to conjure up an equally vivid picture that will resonate with many folk who read it. As always we eagerly await Jim’s next visit!”

So from all of us at the Ness, thank you Jim.

We hope it won’t be too long before you’re back between the lochs again.

Jim also made his photo library available to us at no charge and you will see his stunning images of the Ness and Orkney throughout the website and within the pages of Ness of Brodgar: Digging Deeper and The Ness of Brodgar: As it Stands.
