Artwork created by the renowned artist Philip Hughes’ at the Ness of Brodgar will be among that on display at a forthcoming exhibition in the Pier Arts Centre.

The exhibition, running at the Stromness gallery from March 29 until May 18, coincides with a new book from the artist, Philip Hughes/Notebooks.

The book features a selection from Philip’s unpublished notebooks going back over twenty-five years.

His painterly, but topographically precise, notebooks record moments when the artist was moved to draw what he could see, whether from the shelter of an Orkney standing stone or from the air in Australia’s Simpson desert.

Philip, who has always been a great supporter of the Ness, was last on site in 2013, after which he donated two piece of art to the Ness of Brodgar Trust to go towards project funds. He is planning a return visit this summer.
