Complete the Ness look with new Brodgar Mitts

The new Brodgar Mitts knitting pattern is on sale now.

Calling all knitters – you can now complete your Ness of Brodgar ensemble with the new Brodgar Mitts knitting pattern, which is available now to download for £4.

In addition, we now have a series of six knitting packs containing Orkney Tweed wool and the patterns and, if you want the whole package, the Ness of Brodgar guidebook too. All six packs are available on our online shop.

In 2019, Nancy Fergus, of Orkney Tweed, approached the Ness of Brodgar with the idea of a fundraising collaboration – the result so far is the knitting patterns and kits.

Why knitting? Because Nancy produces wool in the colours of Ness stone, soil and pot,  from her sheep – raised here in Orkney. Developing knitting patterns allowed us to incorporate designs lifted straight from the Neolithic decorated pot and stone at the Ness of Brodgar.

Anna Pack designed the Tam o Brodgar and matching mitts, inspired by what she saw in Dr Antonia Thomas’s Art & Architecture in Neolithic Orkney and our guidebook, Ness of Brodgar: Digging Deeper.

The proceeds from the sale of the patterns and knitting kits go directly to our excavation funds.
