2023 excavation dates set

2023 marks the 20th anniversary of the discovery of the first building at the Ness of Brodgar and we’re delighted to confirm that the dates for next year’s excavation have been set.

Provided our funding plans come together, diggers will be back on site from Monday, July 3, until Friday, August 18, 2023.

The seven-week excavation will be open to the public on weekdays between Wednesday, July 5 and Wednesday, August 16. At present, guided tours are pencilled in for Monday to Friday at 11am, 1pm and 3pm.

Due to the complex nature of the archaeology, we won’t be taking volunteers in 2023, unless they have considerable experience of excavating Neolithic sites.
