Wednesday wildlife – early morning expedition

Wednesday, November 16, 2022 (7:45 AM)

This week’s pictures from around the lochs by site director Nick Card.

A companion on an early morning dog walk between the lochs.
Flyby against the hills of Hoy.
Golden plovers take flight having been spooked by a hen harrier.
Keeping a close eye on the photographer as he glides by.
Large flock of golden plovers.
Mallards gathering on the shore.
Showing a fine set of teeth as this otter devours his breakfast.
Heron reflected in a still loch as it comes in to land.

Please note: The fieldwork element of the Ness of Brodgar project ended in August 2024 and the excavation site is now closed to the public. Our focus is now on post-excavation analysis and publication.

However, we will be back on site for a final, limited period in July 2026.
