A new Ness fundraiser launches in Orkney tomorrow, Friday, December 20.

The Ness “Tam o Brodgar” knitting patterns will be on sale at Orkney Tweed, 23 Victoria Street, Kirkwall, to raise funds for our ongoing excavations at the Ness of Brodgar.

Initially, the patterns and wool packs will only be available from Orkney Tweed’s Kirkwall shop but we aim to have available to purchase online in early January – a unique craft project for the New Year.

The inspiration for the hat’s pattern is the decoration on pottery and incised stones from the Ness. The colours of Orkney Tweed’s wool are those of the stone and pottery of Neolithic Orkney.

Our sincere thanks go to Nancy, Anna and Sally, who have made this exciting project happen.
