Get up close to the Ness of Brodgar archaeology AND win a trike tour

We’re back on site in less than five weeks and could do with some more volunteers to help uncover the trenches for the final time.

As well as removing the protective layers of plastic, there’s sandbags and hundreds of tyres to shift. And, as the saying goes, many hands make light work. We’ve had a great response to our previous calls for aid but if you’re in Orkney on Monday, June 24; Tuesday, June 25 or Wednesday, June 26, we’d still be delighted to hear from you.

This year, as well as getting up close to the archaeology, those who volunteer are in with a chance to win a two-hour trip with Orkney Trike Tours.

The covers off, it might also be possible to help with the initial clean of the trenches and structures – trowels, brushes and buckets provided!

So, if you’re of reasonable fitness and can spare some time, we promise an experience that, although hard work, will bring you as close to the archaeology as the archaeologists ever get.

We do, however, recommend old clothes, strong footwear, waterproofs and gloves.

If you can help on any, or all, of the days, email nick.card@uhi.ac.uk with the times you’re available and we’ll add you to the list.

The names of all the volunteers will be put into a hat and one lucky person will win a two-hour Orkney Trike Tours excursion for them and a guest.

Remember that although our work resumes on June 24, the site is only open to the public on Wednesday, June 26.
