Petrosphere auction raised £625 for excavation fund
The auction for a beautiful bronze petrosphere, donated by Michael and Sara Sinclair – regular contributors to our special Ness Open Days – has closed and raised £625 for excavation funds.
The winner will be contacted shortly to arrange delivery of the petrosphere, which is made in cast bronze, using the lost wax foundry technique, from an original crafted by Michael in wood – click here for details.
Much of Michael’s inspiration is derived from Orkney’s rich archaeological heritage, with this beautiful piece specifically inspired by Neolithic petrospheres or carved stone balls, found in Orkney and the north of Scotland, including the Ness of Brodgar.
Thank you to all who participated and special thanks to the Sinclairs, who made this fundraiser possible with their amazing gift.
