Our auction of a carved stone ball replica ended today at 5pm and raised £425 for Ness excavation funds.

The handmade, red sandstone artefact was created by Chris Gee, who donated it to the Ness of Brodgar Trust.

Chris, who was supervising in Trench J for part of the 2021 season, is a master of creating replicas of Neolithic stone artefacts.

Visitors to our open days over the past few years may have seen him producing polished stone axes, creating decorated and painted slabs and replicating maceheads – all using the tools available in the Neolithic.

Our sincere thanks to Chris for his very generous donation and to all those who placed a bid in the auction.
