Beautifully polished stone maceheads, axes and carved stone balls can be viewed alongside pottery, flint and stone tools, and photographs showing the site during excavation.

Ness of Brodgar – Art and Artefacts will feature the latest updates from site director Nick Card, senior projects director with ORCA (Orkney Research Centre for Archaeology), part of the University of the Highlands and Islands’ Archaeology Institute.

There will also be new insights from Neolithic art expert and University of the Highlands and Islands PhD student, Antonia Thomas, and an over-view of Orkney in the Neolithic by Colin Richards, Professor of World Prehistory, Archaeology, at the University of Manchester.

The exhibition has been co-curated by Orkney Islands Council’s exhibitions officer, based at the Orkney Museum, Tankerness House, Kirkwall, who assists with all Stromness Museum exhibitions.

Ness of Brodgar – Art and Artefacts opens at Stromness Museum on Saturday, April 4, and runs all summer.
